Dry Skin during the Cold Months of the Year.

As the leaves fall, and the months get colder, our skin can become victim to the cooling climate. Do you struggle with dry, irritated, and cracking skin in the fall and winter? Does your eczema worsen as the year comes to an end?

Here are some of DermUtopia’s favorite dry skin tips:

Tip 1. Opt for products void of fragrances to support your skin barrier. Check all of your skincare products, and even your laundry detergent! At our practice, we often see that fragrances in products may be linked to irritating the skin.

Tip 2. Avoid exfoliants and opt for gentle skin cleansers when washing your face. Exfoliants can strip the protective skin barrier of the skin and make you more prone to peeling and cracking. Opt for gentle skin cleansers to prevent worsening dry skin.

Tip 3. Pick nourishing moisturizers. Our practice loves Alastin’s Ultra Nourishing Moisturizer for the cold months of the year. As a bonus, boost your skin hydration with hyaluronic acid. We like Alastin HA serum or Facile Dew You serum. Apply your hyaluronic acid before your moisturizer, or mix it in with your moisturizer.

Tip 4. Don’t be afraid to reapply moisturizer throughout the day. Moisturize after washing your hands, after showering, and any time that you feel dry.

Tip 5. Avoid overuse of hot water. Use cleaning gloves when washing dishes at home to prevent hand dryness. Try to use lukewarm water rather than hot water when showering or bathing.
