Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling

What is RF microneedling?

Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling is a rejuvenating facial treatment. It compounds the effect of traditional microneedling by adding RF heat energy, which helps stimulate collagen production and skin tightening. RF microneedling has little to no downtime, with redness fading in 4-6 hours post-procedure. Our FDA-cleared Virtue RF device is great for treating:

  • Fine lines
  • Enlarged pores
  • Acne scars
  • Uneven skin texture and tone

What can I expect from my appointment?

RF microneedling takes 80-90 minutes. Here is what to expect once you arrive in the office:

  1. We will numb the treatment area for one hour prior to the start of treatment to prevent any discomfort. This numbing time is included in the appointment.
  2. During the RF treatment, the Virtue device will make micro channels in the skin and deliver a small burst of RF energy. This creates heat, and stimulates collagen production and skin remodeling in the lower levels of the dermis.
  3. The doctor makes multiple passes across the treated area, focusing on any places with more texture or lines.
  4. After treatment, the redness caused by the microneedling fades rapidly. Most patients stop seeing redness in just 4-6 hours.
  5. You can apply sunscreen, makeup, and gentle skincare products 24 hours after your treatment. We always recommend wearing an SPF 30+ tinted sunscreen daily to prevent hyperpigmentation and sun damage.
  6. Avoid using strong exfoliants and potentially irritating topicals like retinols, AHA, BHA, and hydroquinone for at least 3-5 days pre- and post-treatment.

Is RF Microneedling right for me?

RF microneedling works on all skin tones and skin types. It works best for improving texture and damage on the skin surface. If you want to address fine lines, scarring, large pores, or uneven skin tone on your face, then RF microneedling may be right for you. Other skin concerns, such as hyperpigmentation, melasma, and rosacea, may be better addressed with laser treatment. When you book a cosmetic consultation with our office, Dr. Dintiman will work with you to create a treatment plan that is optimized for your skin goals.
